..More The imminent disruption was emphasized by the keynote speaker and futurist, Vivek Wadhwa, with the assertion that "...digital will eat the healthcare industry." The conference included presentations and discussions by experts from both the digital and the healthcare industries on diverse topics, including novel approaches in drug development, innovation in devices and diagnostics, investments, and digital health. Five start-up companies, seeking investment, had the opportunity to pitch their products to the audience and a panel of investors.
Orbees Medical was well represented at the conference through the participation of Dr. Shaym Venkatesh and Dr. Anurag Mairal. Part of the panel for Innovations in Devices/Diagnostics, Dr. Mairal spoke about the importance of innovation in business models in ensuring success of new medical technologies in emerging markets. He shared examples from Sanford-India Biodesign and PATH that showed that generating innovation concepts is only the beginning of a new medtech.
